A practice of Commoning Consciousness
A private daily practice of Gratitude, Affirmation, Intention, and Action. Everything you write stays in this browser.
Five to ten minutes. Write as much or as little as you like; the ring fills as each step is written.
Something that supports you that you did not produce: a gift of the living world, of someone's effort, or of what we hold in common.
Affirm that you are worthy to receive and use what you received, as others are, without claiming to own it.
A direction to keep, not an outcome to secure.
One or more steps toward your intention. Try to make at least one reach beyond you, into a relationship, a group, or a place.
1 is very little, 5 is a great deal. Attention is where your mind went; effort is what your body spent.
Before acting, forecast where an action's benefits and costs will fall. Afterward, usually once a week, review what happened. There is no score: watch for the export flag, a benefit at one level paired with a cost at another.
Gratitude. Notice what supports you that you did not produce: the living world, the often invisible work of other people, and shared things such as a language, a library, or a story.
Affirmation. Receiving goes wrong in two directions: guilt about what we did not earn, and entitlement. Affirm that you are worthy to receive and use a gift, as others are, without claiming to own it.
Intention. Name a direction rather than a destination. An intention held too tightly becomes one more thing to prove.
Action. Name concrete steps, and let at least one reach beyond you. Then use the ledger to see where each step's costs and benefits will fall.
A season is thirteen weeks. At the end of a season, look back over your entries and ledger, then begin again. There are no streaks, scores, or badges here, on purpose.
This journal is yours alone. Entries are stored only in this browser on this device. Nothing is sent to anyone, including the person who shared this page with you. Clearing your browser's data will erase your journal, so download a copy from time to time.
